In this episode of Thyroid Pharmacist Healing Conversations, I spoke with Aimee Raupp, a fertility expert, licensed acupuncturist, Chinese medicine practitioner, and the author of Yes, You Can Get Pregnant. This conversation is especially meaningful to me because I share my own journey with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), low anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), Hashimoto’s, and becoming pregnant naturally at age 43 after being told that donor eggs were my only option.
Aimee and I discuss why many of the messages women receive about fertility after 35 may be outdated and unnecessarily discouraging. We explore the growing body of research suggesting that ovarian aging is influenced by much more than chronological age, including mitochondrial health, inflammation, immune dysfunction, insulin resistance, environmental toxins, and blood flow to the ovaries. We also dive into the connection between Hashimoto’s, premature ovarian insufficiency, endometriosis, and unexplained infertility, along with emerging therapies that are giving many women renewed hope.
If you’ve ever been told your AMH is too low, your biological clock has run out, or your only option is IVF with donor eggs, I hope this episode reminds you that your diagnosis is not necessarily your destiny. While there are never guarantees, understanding and addressing the root causes affecting fertility may open doors that many women never knew existed.
What You’ll Learn in This Episode
- Why the “fertility cliff” may not be as steep as we’ve been told. Aimee explains why current research suggests ovarian aging is influenced by mitochondrial function, inflammation, and the environment surrounding the egg – not just your birthday. She also discusses why many women over 40 still have healthy eggs and the need to treat fertility issues more holistically.
- How Hashimoto’s, premature ovarian insufficiency, and endometriosis are often connected. We discuss how autoimmune disease, chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, and endometriosis can all contribute to fertility challenges, and why identifying the underlying cause is far more valuable than focusing on a single lab marker like AMH.
- Why optimizing your health matters more than chasing “perfect” lab numbers. We cover thyroid hormone optimization, anti-inflammatory nutrition, gut health, environmental toxin reduction, nervous system regulation, and key nutrients that can support both fertility and overall health.
- The exciting new science behind ovarian rejuvenation and regenerative medicine. Aimee discusses the latest research on ovarian PRP, stem cell therapies, mitochondrial support, peptides, GLP-1 medications, and other emerging approaches that may help improve egg quality and ovarian function in some women.
- Why ovarian health is about much more than having a baby. We explore the growing evidence that healthy ovaries play an important role in longevity, cardiovascular health, bone health, and healthy aging – and why ovarian function is an important focus even for women who aren’t planning to become pregnant.
- Why individualized care always wins. Whether we’re talking about Chinese herbal medicine, supplements, hormone therapy, or fertility treatments, we discuss why root-cause medicine and personalized protocols consistently outperform one-size-fits-all recommendations.
