In this episode of the Thyroid Pharmacist Healing Conversations podcast, I interviewed one of my favorite people, Dave Asprey, aka “The Father of Biohacking.” Dave is also the founder of Bulletproof Coffee and Danger Coffee, and the author of several bestselling books.
People often ask me how I am able to stay so calm and resilient and grounded, despite all of the challenges I have gone through… earlier in life, and even recently. My secret? I happen to be good friends with the “Father of Biohacking,” Dave Asprey. Back in 2014, I had healed my physical body, but let’s just say that my brain still needed some work. I was easily triggered, overwhelmed, and walking around with a lot of unresolved trauma, which made me push my body to the limits. It’s a bit of a vicious cycle I see with autoimmune clients – they tend to heal their physical bodies, but then they jump into the same patterns that get them sick again (overworking, not listening to their bodies, overcommitting, etc.). I met Dave at a wellness conference in January 2014, and was surprised that he knew who I was and had even read my book, Hashimoto’s The Root Cause. It turns out, he also has Hashimoto’s, and was able to get it into remission! We became fast friends. 🙂
Dave introduced me to neurofeedback, a $10,000+ therapy that completely rewired my mind and stress response. I know this therapy is not accessible to everyone, and I am so grateful to have had Dave on my podcast, Thyroid Pharmacist Healing Conversations, on how to biohack rewiring your brain. Because sometimes your brain and mindset can be what prevents you from healing, and you can also heal your physical body, but your brain and mindset can make you get sick over again due to the same patterns. Dave shares a multitude of methods on how to rewire your brain for healing, including ones that are free and can be done in your own home. Hint: meditation is one way, but it’s not the only way (and often not the best way out).

What you’ll learn in this episode:
- Meditation helps rewire the brain out of chronic stress, can reduce inflammation and improve neuroplasticity. These changes are especially relevant for people with autoimmune conditions, PTSD, or brain fog, as they promote healing and cognitive flexibility, as well as improve emotional regulation, focus, and resilience.
- Not every brain is wired for traditional meditation. Fast-thinking, high-reactive brains (sometimes called “hunter brains”) may find sitting meditation frustrating or even dysregulating. These individuals often do better with active or tech-assisted practices.
- Neurofeedback is one powerful alternative to traditional meditation. It uses real-time brainwave feedback to train the brain into calm, focused states — without requiring years of practice. Results can include better sleep, less reactivity, and enhanced cognitive clarity. But there are also many others. 🙂
- Healing the body doesn’t automatically rewire the stress response. Izabella shared how even after remission from Hashimoto’s, her brain patterns remained stuck in fear and overwork — until she incorporated adrenal and brain retraining tools like neurofeedback and adaptogens.
- Trigger management is energy management. Every unresolved trigger drains energy — and adrenal recovery (both physiologic and emotional) frees up that energy for healing, joy, and growth.
